Corrugated Display Types: Choosing the Right Format

At Creative Displays Now, we build custom cardboard retail displays because we know your product is unique and deserves more than a generic solution. Our team also works with you to help you select the right type of display.

    Floor Displays

Large and eye-catching, floor displays withstand the weight of freestanding products. Available in single-wall or double-wall options, these are best for high-traffic areas.

Product Displayed Quickly or Pretty Darn Quick (PDQ)/Shipper Displays

Engineered as a shipper and display hybrid, usually with double-wall construction, these displays can make good shelf units or countertop units. They also work well as point-of-purchase (POP) corrugated displays near the checkout, encouraging last-minute purchasing decisions. These displays are shipped with your product already in them, making them quick to set up.

    Counter Displays

With a compact footprint, counter displays fit well on counters and even next to the checkout for impulse purchases. Our counter displays can be engineered with E flute, a material we can print with high-quality, full-color graphics.

    Pallet Displays

With double- or triple-wall construction, pallet displays are ideal for high-capacity storage, including beverages. We also offer corrugated pallet skirts to cover wooden pallets and headers to place at the top or back of your custom display for more branding space.

    Endcap Displays

Custom endcap displays are prime retail space at the end of aisles, where your product can stand out. We are familiar with the specifications required by major retailers and ensure your custom displays meet their exact dimensions. Our corrugated material is also engineered to pass International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) transit testing, which couriers and retailers may require.

    Dump Bins

High-capacity for heavy products, the open-top design of corrugated cardboard dump bins allows customers to access your product easily. Our dump bins can be engineered with bright, precise graphics and with reinforced walls for product depth.

Which format is right for you? Uncertain about what requirements your custom displays need to meet? Reach out, and our team would be happy to help.

    Corrugated Materials and Construction

When you’re choosing the right corrugated cardboard retail displays, consider the following:

    Flute Types

Flute refers to the wavy sections found between the flat linerboard sheets of corrugated cardboard. The type of flute can determine the appropriateness of corrugated cardboard for different displays:

    Flute Details Best For
B 52 flutes per foot, thickness of about 1/8″, high crush resistance and a smooth surface for printing. Floor displays with beverages or heavy items.
C A very common choice, with 39–43 flutes per foot. Cardboard POP displays and end cap displays.
E Up to 98 flutes per foot, 1/16″ thickness and an excellent printing surface. Countertop displays and shipper displays.
F Sturdy but thin corrugate, with 128 flutes per foot and a thickness of 1/32″. POP displays, product packaging and shipper displays.

    Wall Configurations

Wall configurations, along with flutes, contribute to how strong corrugated cardboard is. You can choose from three options:

    • Single wall: Lightweight and easy to ship, this has one layer of fluting and two flat linerboards. It is the right choice for most displays.
    • Double-wall: This wall construction consists of two layers of fluting and three linerboards, making it ideal for heavier products and endcap displays.
    • Triple-wall: With three layers of fluting and four flat linerboards, triple-wall construction is sturdy enough for pallet and industrial displays.

    Board Grades

Board grades also help determine the appropriateness of corrugated cardboard for different applications:

    • Burst strength: Measured in pounds per square inch (psi), it is the maximum pressure corrugated cardboard can withstand before it punctures or bursts. Choose a higher psi for heavier items.
    • Edge crush test (ECT): This test evaluates stacking strength, and a higher ECT rating is important for displays for heavy items, such as paint cans.
    • Basis weight: Basis weight is the weight of corrugated cardboard, often expressed as pounds per 1,000 square feet. A heavier material can mean greater strength, but also higher shipping costs.

    Sustainability

Our corrugated cardboard displays are made from up to 90% post-consumer waste and are biodegradable and 100% recyclable.

Print and Finishing for Corrugated Displays

We offer a range of printing and finishing options:

    • Flexographic printing: This cost-effective method is a four to six-color process, making it ideal for many simple displays. It’s best for high-volume printing.
    • Litho-lamination: With offset lithography and then laminating to adhere the image to your display, this method delivers premium photographic quality. It can be the right choice for POP and counter displays with complex graphics.
    • Digital direct printing: This process sends an image from the computer to the printer, which applies ink to the corrugated cardboard. Digital direct printing is best for shorter runs under 350 units and for complex, photo-like art.

    FAQs

B flute prints well and has decent strength, making it a good choice for floor displays. C flute is an option for POP and end cap displays. E flute typically works well for custom cardboard countertop displays.

Yes. Our PDQ/shipper display engineering allows us to co-pack.

Our team has decades of experience in transit engineering. We use protective packaging and hand pack to protect the structural integrity and graphics of your custom displays.

Flexo printing directly applies ink to corrugated, while litho-laminate prints images on paper, then laminates the paper onto corrugated board. Flexo offers a smaller palette of colors but low-cost, high-speed printing. Litho-laminate allows for photographic-quality images.

Committed to sustainability, our corrugated displays are 100% recyclable and crafted with up to 90% post-consumer recyclables.

Corrugated displays are extremely customizable. We offer three different methods for displays, including lithography, flexography, and digital printing.

Absolutely. Our structural designers will gather insights into your project goals. From there, our creative team will craft visually captivating designs tailored to align seamlessly with your goals.

Utilizing our digital press allows us to handle quantities below 350, however, the per-unit price sees a notable increase for smaller runs. Every project involves design and prepress processes, incurring fixed expenses. If you’re considering a limited run for a market test or a specialized campaign, let’s explore various alternatives to gauge our alignment with your objectives.

To guarantee a precise fit and strong support for your product, we can provide structural prototypes at no additional cost. Additionally, we can demonstrate our capabilities by sharing print samples from previous projects with other clients. While a full-color prototype generally comes with a fee, proceeding with a production order afterward allows us to offset that amount against the production costs.

Yes. We offer display fulfillment and assembly, granting you the flexibility to choose between copacking or constructing the displays.
